Glucosamine is a compound found naturally in the body, made from glucose and the amino acid glutamine.  Glucosamine is needed to produce glycosaminoglycan which is a molecule used in the repair and formation of cartilage and other body tissues. MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)

When MSM is taken in supplemental form there is a measurable reduction in inflammation and a corresponding relief of pain. It achieves this effect by restoring flexibility and permeability to cell walls, which enables fluids to pass through the tissues more easily. A by-product of this process is also a reduction in post exercise muscle soreness via the increased elimination of lactic acids and toxins.
MSM is also needed for the synthesis of collagen, making it vital to the formation and repair of cartilage – a factor that leads to this being an essential component in ARTHROLYZE. CHONDROITIN SULFATE

Chondroitin Sulfate is a major constituent of cartilage, providing structure, holding water and nutrients, and allowing other molecules to move through cartilage. This is very important, as there is no blood supply to cartilage. In cases of degenerative joint disease (e.g. osteoarthritis) chondroitin sulfate levels fall as the cartilage erodes. When it is given in supplemental form it can interrupt the process that breaks down connective tissue and helps the body rebuild new cartilage. There is also evidence that the use of chondroitin sulfate may promote the healing of bone. CALCIUM FRUCTOBORATE

Calcium Fructoborate is an extremely bioavailable mineral complex and the only food-form source of boron available for dietary supplements. Boron serves many important functions in the body, the most important of which (in terms of this formula at least) is its ability to support joint mobility and reduce the pain associated with arthritis. It is also involved in the production of vitamin D3 and in the regulation of sex hormones (e.g. DHEA, Testosterone, Estrogen). Another important function of boron is its role as a metabolic regulator in several enzyme systems as well as the synthesis of RNA. Interestingly enough, when there is a deficiency of boron in the body there is a corresponding increase in the urinary excretion of calcium and magnesium, and lower serum concentrations of testosterone.
